Demetree Global 's update of the 2600 Douglas building in Downtown Coral Gables has earned the City Beautiful Award for Outstanding Renovation Project.

Coral Gables, Fla. (July 19, 2018) – Demetree Global owned 2600 Douglas has been awarded the 2018 City Beautiful Award for Outstanding Renovation Project. The City Beautiful Awards were held at the monthly Chamber breakfast on July 19th at the Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables. This annual award ceremony presented by Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce and City of Coral Gables recognizes and honors the most outstanding commercial properties in the Gables across five various categories, awarding only one winner per category.

Built in 1972 as the first Class A office building in Coral Gables, Douglas Centre is a landmark within the historic city. The building recently underwent Phase I of a $15 million capital improvement project, which included enhancements such as a new lobby, renovated elevators, common corridors, elevator landings and restrooms, and an impressive new main entrance with a porte-cochere.

With clean lines and a more contemporary aesthetic than the City’s customary Mediterranean architecture, the architect’s approach to repositioning the building in a highly competitive market was to create a transparent ground floor connecting the building to the City-at-large, along with a VIP drop-off and rideshare pick-up area. Inspired by the Spanish tile patterns found at the Biltmore Hotel, the concrete stair towers are being cladded with back-lit, perforated metal that will gleam in an elegant and unique way, setting this contemporary building apart from others in the City Beautiful.
